About the position

The MCL Technician position at Hitchiner Manufacturing Co., Inc. involves analyzing alloy compositions and ensuring the quality of melting stock through various laboratory tests. The role is essential for maintaining the integrity of the melting process and requires a commitment to safety and teamwork. Responsibilities

  • Operate all lab equipment including emission spectrometers, nitrogen and carbon analyzers, and other tools.
  • Analyze alloy composition of prepour melts and calculate alloy additions required to certify chemical properties.
  • Identify impure gas in tanks feeding emission spectrometer and notify maintenance of any problems.
  • Perform audits and maintenance work on lab equipment.
  • Analyze and prepare paperwork for incoming materials including melting stock.
  • Prepare parts and related paperwork for microstructure analysis.
  • Complete overtime workload as needed.
  • Maintain daily contact with foundry melters and supervisors regarding rejected material.
  • Function well as a team member and follow safety requirements as outlined.
  • Perform bench chemistry analysis of acidic and caustic solutions.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly working environment and inform supervisors about problems.
  • Handle hazardous waste according to safety regulations.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of chemical processes desired.
  • Previous experience in an inspection department preferable.
  • Computer skills necessary, familiarity with Excel spreadsheets.
  • Demonstrate basic math skills for calculations related to melt chemistry adjustments.
  • Strong communication skills for collaboration with other departments.
  • Ability to work independently and flexible hours when necessary.
  • Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to frequently lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations related to hazardous materials.
