About the position

The MD, Inflight Training and Standards position at American Airlines is responsible for overseeing the recruitment and training of flight attendants, ensuring compliance with FAA regulations, and leading the development and delivery of training programs. This role involves managing a significant budget and a large team, while also maintaining high standards of training and performance metrics for over 26,000 frontline crewmembers.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees flight attendant recruitment and hiring processes.
  • Leads the delivery of regulatory and non-regulatory training programs for over 26,000 crewmembers and business partners.
  • Manages an annual operating budget of $4M and a special assignment budget of $5M.
  • Oversees the Skyview 3 and 5 Training complex, including renovation efforts.
  • Communicates and coordinates with the FAA regarding Inflight training programs and qualifications.
  • Delivers the Advanced Qualification Program (AQP) curriculum and collects performance data.
  • Oversees the recruitment and training of new flight attendant trainees.
  • Selects training development leaders, instructors, and support team members.
  • Determines strategic training plans in coordination with various departments.
  • Evaluates and documents staff performance according to regulatory standards.
  • Ensures program quality and consistency in training content.
  • Partners with facility managers to secure training spaces and resources.
  • Conducts training needs assessments and recommends learning solutions.
  • Monitors department spending to meet budgetary goals.
  • Maintains flight attendant crew qualifications and regulatory certifications.
  • Coaches and leads a centralized call center team on business objectives.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • 10 years of leadership experience, with at least 5 years managing leaders in a senior capacity.
  • Experience with hiring and recruitment practices, with general HR knowledge preferred.
  • Demonstrated superior leadership and management skills.
  • Effective presentation skills in a fast-paced learning environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
