About the position

As a Meat Cutter at Smith's Food and Drug, you will play a vital role in the Meat department by performing general product preparation, clean-up, and stock work while providing exceptional customer service. Your responsibilities will include a variety of tasks such as cutting, grinding, slicing, preparing, processing, trimming, tenderizing, sealing, packaging, wrapping, bagging, pricing, prefabricating, dating, labeling, scaling, merchandising, and selling meat products. You will be expected to adhere to company policies and maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring that all meat items are displayed safely and in accordance with company standards. In this position, you will also be responsible for keeping accurate temperature logs for the department, checking product quality to ensure freshness, and maintaining cleanliness in sales areas, backrooms, and coolers. You will need to effectively communicate with customers and fellow associates, providing a friendly and professional impression at all times. Additionally, you will assist in unloading trucks, sorting orders, and ensuring that all equipment is washed and sanitized according to company and health department policies. Your role is crucial in increasing store sales and profits while fostering good customer and associate relations. Responsibilities

  • Perform general product preparation, clean-up, and stock work in the Meat department.
  • Cut, grind, slice, prepare, process, trim, tenderize, seal, package, wrap, bag, price, prefabricate, date, label, scale, merchandise, and sell meat products.
  • Keep department temperature logs accurately updated and maintained.
  • Stock and display meat items safely and in accordance with company standards.
  • Check product quality; ensure it is rotated properly and fresh.
  • Maintain cleanliness in sales areas, backrooms, and coolers.
  • Organize carts, tools, and supplies in their designated areas.
  • Keep floors clean, safe, and free from clutter.
  • Provide good customer and associate relations.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and fellow associates.
  • Unload trucks, sort orders, and place in proper cooler location.
  • Wash and sanitize equipment in accordance with company and health department policies and procedures.
  • Greet customers and provide them with good quality foods promptly and cheerfully.
  • Increase store sales and profits in conjunction with retail operations and marketing programs.

Requirements

  • Willingness to work weekends and holidays.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to read shelf tags, signs, and product labels.
  • Experience working with various cleaning solutions and safely using sharp tools.
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

  • Desired meat work experience or similar experience in food preparation.
  • Past work record reflecting dependability and integrity.
