About the position

The Mechanic II position at Cooper Machinery Services involves performing a variety of tasks related to the disassembly, positioning, reassembly, testing, and painting of complex equipment. The Mechanic II will be responsible for cleaning, inspecting, and repairing natural gas engine and compressor components in a shop environment, while adhering to all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) regulations. The position demands a strong mechanical aptitude, particularly in the Oil & Gas sector, and the ability to read detailed prints and utilize precision measuring tools such as micrometers and dial calipers. In this role, the Mechanic II will conduct all business-related tasks in accordance with Cooper Machinery Services policies, demonstrating a commitment to EHS and compliance with integrity policies. The individual will maintain a safe, clean, and organized working environment, complete risk assessments prior to operations, and ensure that facility equipment and tooling are accounted for and operating efficiently. The Mechanic II will also be responsible for troubleshooting and performing minor maintenance on mechanical tools and equipment, completing required documentation accurately, and collaborating effectively with team members to meet production schedules. The position requires the ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed, and involves physical activities such as pushing, pulling, lifting, and bending. The Mechanic II will be expected to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs and work in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat. The role also necessitates the interpretation of engineering specifications and drawings to perform complex assembly and disassembly tasks, as well as the operation of forklifts and overhead cranes, with appropriate licensing and certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform disassembly, positioning, reassembly, testing, and painting of complex equipment.
  • Clean, inspect, and repair natural gas engine and compressor components in a shop environment.
  • Adhere to all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) rules and regulations.
  • Read and interpret detailed prints and use precision measuring tools.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized working environment.
  • Complete risk assessments prior to operations and material movements.
  • Ensure facility equipment and tooling are accounted for and operating efficiently.
  • Identify, report, and mitigate problems or hazardous conditions during equipment handling.
  • Complete required documentation accurately for routers and inspection reports.
  • Collaborate with team members to meet production schedules and plans.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in mechanical test and assembly/disassembly or heavy equipment repairs and maintenance.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Physical capability to perform tasks involving pushing, pulling, lifting, and bending.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in extreme heat for extended periods.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in operations/service center applications.
  • Strong knowledge of natural gas engine and compressor cylinder equipment.
  • Ability to work independently per engineering specifications.
  • Experience in hydro pressure testing and functional testing of products.
  • Basic math skills and ability to read schematics.
