About the position

The Mechanical Design Engineer (MDE) plays a crucial role in the engineering process at a leading provider of communication and response products. This position involves taking designs from concept through production, creating parts and assemblies, and compiling them into complete production-ready 3D models and 2D drawings. The MDE is responsible for maintaining accuracy and completeness in design, meeting or exceeding company standards of excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Use FEA to analyze parts, perform stress calculations, create tests to verify results, document analysis, and change parts when needed to optimize the design.
  • Research, read, and understand outside standards such as MI, RVIA code, SAE, etc.
  • Complete all analyses, documentation, and drawings required for Production within established time frames as agreed upon by the Operations team.
  • Communicate with other Engineers, Project Management, Production Leads to identify and implement improvement opportunities at the project level, as well as a company level.
  • Communicate with vendors and clients to troubleshoot designs, get information on new designs, and obtain specifications/drawings/models of components.
  • Analyze proposed Change Orders and communicate their assessment affecting the project's original design parameters, project's timeline and budget, estimated engineering time for completion of the change, feasibility given the project's parameters, as well as other project demands upon Engineering.
  • Propagate any downstream revisions to analyses, documentation, and drawings in a timely manner.
  • Be willing to travel on a limited basis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program.
  • Minimum of 5 years of verifiable work history as a Mechanical Design Engineer in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with SolidWorks modeling, drawings, and file management.
