About the position

As a Closures Systems Design Engineer at Tesla, you will play a pivotal role in the conception, architecture, design, and engineering of the dynamic exterior systems of Tesla vehicles. This position requires collaboration with innovative Designers and Engineers throughout all stages of the product design cycle, from initial sketches and clay modeling to architecture, design, validation, and product launch. You will be part of a team that is responsible for creating and executing some of the most notable hallmarks of Tesla's design philosophy. In this role, you will serve as a member of the Vehicle Engineering Team, supporting the development of automotive body and closure systems for the Tesla vehicle product line. Your responsibilities will include conceptualizing, designing, engineering, and launching Closure Systems components for Mechanisms and Electro-Mechanisms, while considering other vehicle systems such as sealing, Closures/Body in White, electrical controls, sealing, and glazing. You will be tasked with achieving innovation-driven closure system targets that encompass appearance, function, quality, cost, and weight. You will establish system-level architecture and functionality based on market research, design feasibility, and prototyping. Participation in the iterative design process with the Tesla design and styling studio will be crucial to deliver an optimal balance of form, function, and quality. Additionally, you will support manufacturing processes and material selections to ensure world-class execution of automotive exterior craftsmanship and fit and finish. Your role will also involve optimizing designs through appropriate analytical and physical assessments, interpreting and developing Tolerance Analysis, CAE, DFM, DFMEA, PFMEA simulations/results, and integrating feedback into product designs. Collaboration with key suppliers, both internal and external, will be essential to support overall vehicle development milestones and prototype/production build events. You will launch products in a mass production setting, analyze assembly procedures and potential quality issues, and provide solutions to ensure a smooth and flawless mass production launch.
