About the position

The Mechanical Design group at ChargePoint is seeking a Mechanical Design Intern to join our team. As a member of the Mechanical Design Team, you will play a crucial role in driving innovation and helping to build the future of electric vehicle charging. This internship offers a unique opportunity to engage in the full range of the product design process, contributing to the development of prototype parts and test fixtures, as well as participating in engineering validation testing. You will be responsible for documenting test results in reports and presenting your findings to the broader organization, which is essential for ensuring that our designs meet the necessary standards and requirements. In this role, you will also be involved in prototype assembly and the creation of engineering documentation, including drawings and bills of material. A significant part of your responsibilities will include conducting root cause and failure analysis to identify issues and improve product designs. This hands-on experience will not only enhance your technical skills but also provide you with insights into the practical applications of mechanical engineering in the electric vehicle industry. Responsibilities

  • Design of prototype parts and test fixtures
  • Design of experiments and engineering validation testing
  • Documenting test results in reports and presenting findings to the broader organization
  • Prototype assembly
  • Creation of engineering documentation in the form of drawings and bills of material
  • Conducting root cause and failure analysis

Requirements

  • Actively enrolled in a degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related field (Aero, Mechatronics and Thermal concentrations considered)
  • 3rd year student or beyond with at least 2 prior internships
  • Prior experience as an intern, lab assistant, teaching assistant, etc.
  • Involvement at a deep level in a relevant student design project like SAE Formula-E, Solar Car or Solar Decathlon
  • At least 1 year experience with Siemens NX CAD in prior internship
  • Experience with shop tools
  • Excellent, professional communication skills
  • Knowledge of heat transfer
  • Knowledge of basic electrical circuits
  • Ability to perform basic stress/strain analysis
  • Availability to commit to a full-time internship in a fast-paced professional environment
