About the position

TESP designs, develops, qualifies, and manufactures a variety of small, highly reliable products, which in many cases are intended to operate explosive devices such as EEDs (Electro-Explosive Devices), EB---Ws (Exploding Bridge Wires), EFIs (Exploding Foil Initiators), and other similar devices. Product applications include Aircrew Safety, Launch and Tactical Vehicles, and Energetic Devices. Our products include Aircraft ejection seat solid state sequencers, Escape system controllers, and associated field equipment. TESP is an operating unit of Teledyne Technologies, located in Chatsworth, California, and has been manufacturing products since 1986. We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team!

Responsibilities

  • Designs and develops components and assemblies using 2D and 3D solid modeling software for electrical and mechanical system assemblies.
  • Support and work closely with the production and planning departments to minimize delays and downtime by tracking and releasing production flow travelers, engineering change orders, assembly instructions/drawings, and other critical documentation and processes.
  • Work with a multi-faceted team of Electrical and Software engineers to analyze and develop robust solutions that fulfill customer and program requirements.
  • Collaborate and contribute to the system design and component selection to ensure the best possible solution.
  • Process and release drawings; support drawing filing and storage.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, sketches, notes, and verbal direction.
  • Prepare and analyze detailed mechanical tolerance analysis.
  • Participate in brainstorm sessions to help offer new ideas and solutions.
  • Work with suppliers to clarify engineering drawing issues.
  • Analyze historical part drawings during engineering investigations.
  • Prepare engineering red lines and change requests.
  • Provide sustaining engineering support for legacy product lines.
  • Work with the manufacturing department when developing new tooling.
  • Support internal/external design reviews.
  • Work with a minimum of supervision and guidance.

Requirements

  • BSME or equivalent with solid modeling skills.
  • Minimum 3-5 years directly related experience (preferably in Aerospace & Defense).
  • Good analytical and time management skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office, AutoCAD, Creo, SolidWorks, and Visio.
  • Experience with DOD design/drawing requirements.
