About the position

The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the documentation and specification of equipment for mechanical solutions for both new and existing electric motors/coil/actuator assemblies in a cross-functional team environment. They have direct contact with the customers to understand their specifications/needs and determine the best solution. They approach the solutions from a systems standpoint and can lead the project through the design/development process. They take direction from the Engineering Manager and can manage the day-to-day work on their own.

Responsibilities

  • Convert customer requirements into low to medium complexity electro-mechanical solutions.
  • Organize project work from initial concept design, fabrication, assembly, QC, and through initial production.
  • Anticipate and meet design deliverables throughout the New Product Development process.
  • Model CAD components and assemblies, create initial drawing packages, and create Engineering Specifications.
  • Apply GD&T correctly while understanding its effects on the manufacturability and inspection of the components and assemblies.
  • Generate tolerance stack-up studies for mechanical components and assemblies.
  • Serve as the engineering design lead on NPD project teams.
  • Provide support for Operations, Quality, and Supply Chain team members when investigating production issues.
  • Provide information request support to other departments.
  • Evaluate and disposition Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and execute on Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
  • Qualify design changes, alternate materials, and parts from new tooling.
  • Participate in hands-on troubleshooting activities, cost-reduction activities, component evaluations, and other design and manufacturing initiatives to support continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with the test organization to define the testing requirements that align with customer specifications.
  • Work individually or as part of a team.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other cross-functional team members, suppliers, and contractors.
