About the position

Siemens Mobility is expanding its team and is looking to fill two new Mechanical Desk Engineer positions at the Wilmington, Delaware facility. This role is crucial for providing direct support in fleet monitoring and maintenance planning specifically for Siemens locomotives. The Mechanical Desk Engineer will also play a vital role in supporting Siemens Customer Service by offering technical oversight to contractual depots and administrative services to the Siemens Reliability and Service Managers. This position requires on-site attendance in Wilmington, Delaware, and operates on a day shift, which may include weekends and holidays. Flexibility to work all shifts is essential for this role. In this position, you will be responsible for monitoring fleet performance and providing equipment surveillance support for Siemens' locomotives at the Amtrak Mechanical Desk. You will support efforts to drive reliability and continuous improvement, aiming to minimize downtime and costs associated with fleet operations. Collaboration with Product Managers, Software Engineers, and Field Service Technicians will be a key part of your day-to-day activities, as you work to monitor and enhance maintenance practices. Additionally, you will provide real-time phone support to end-users, ensuring that customer issues are addressed calmly and effectively. Your responsibilities will also include supporting failure investigations and completing Root Cause Analysis reports, as well as regularly reviewing and updating maintenance practices, documentation, and troubleshooting procedures. You will be tasked with resolving product or service issues by clarifying customer problems, determining the cause, selecting and explaining the best solutions, expediting corrections or adjustments, and following up to ensure resolution. Responsibilities

  • Monitor fleet performance and provide equipment surveillance support for Siemens' locomotives at the Amtrak Mechanical Desk.
  • Support efforts to drive reliability and continuous improvement to minimize downtime and costs.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Software Engineers, and Field Service Technicians to monitor and improve maintenance practices.
  • Provide real-time live phone support to end-users calmly.
  • Support failure investigations and complete Root Cause Analysis reports.
  • Regularly review and update maintenance practices, impacting documentation and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Resolve product or service issues by clarifying the customer's problems, determining the cause, selecting and explaining the best solution, expediting correction or adjustment, and following up to ensure resolution.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in a technical field or proven practical maintenance and operational experience.
  • Ability to solve practical problems, exercise initiative, and deal with various changing, sometimes unclear, situations.
  • Strongly demonstrated computer skills and willingness to learn computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel to generate administrative reports.
  • Effective communication, listening, and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to learn project-specific software programs and online tools.
  • Ability to travel: 5% domestic.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate's degree in a technical discipline with 5+ years of experience in maintenance planning and rail industry experience.
