About the position

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer Co-op at our Kaukauna, Wisconsin plant for the January - August semester. This position is designed for students currently enrolled in an Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related degree program. The Co-op will play a crucial role in aiding the day-to-day troubleshooting of process and reliability problems, as well as executing maintenance activities in a paper manufacturing environment. This opportunity allows you to work in an engaged, team-focused environment while building related skills and experience for your future career. The pay rate for this position is $25/hour. As a Mechanical Engineer Co-op, you will be expected to follow Ahlstrom's manufacturing and hygiene processes, procedures, and policies to meet and maintain safety, quality, and regulatory compliance requirements for each grade of paper produced. You will also be involved in reviewing, developing, and implementing preventative and predictive maintenance processes aimed at reducing unplanned downtime and increasing overall asset efficiency. This role will require you to work closely with plant teams and maintenance personnel to identify and plan daily, weekly, and shutdown work, as well as assist with multiple capital and maintenance projects. In addition, you will initiate and facilitate continuous improvement projects within the maintenance area, investigate maintenance needs to support operations, and provide maintenance coverage for start-ups from outages. You will also support maintenance craftsmen with their day-to-day tasks, work with suppliers to order equipment and parts, document equipment specifications and history, and assist craftsmen in performing repairs when necessary. Requirements

  • Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
  • Enrolled in an Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related degree program.
  • Living in or willing to relocate to the Kaukauna, Wisconsin area from June - December 2025.
  • Ability to work full-time for the duration of the position.
  • Strong desire to work within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong technical aptitude and proven problem-solving abilities.
