About the position

As a Mechanical Engineer specializing in HVAC for the Starship Infrastructure at SpaceX, you will be part of a dynamic team responsible for designing, building, and activating the infrastructure necessary for orbital launch capabilities of the Starship rocket. This role involves collaboration with elite engineers across various disciplines and requires a strong focus on mechanical and HVAC engineering projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and issue drawings, design documentation, and reports for mechanical & HVAC engineering projects.
  • Perform all calculations necessary for HVAC & piping design.
  • Drive coordination and design necessary to obtain local, state, and federal permits related to building permits.
  • Manage the mechanical aspects of construction projects in the field, including quality control and conflict resolution.
  • Write, negotiate, and manage construction contracts with subcontractors across multiple disciplines.
  • Interact with contractors, fabricators, owners, and internal clients to develop project requirements, schedule, and cost estimates.
  • Own budget & schedule for a scope of work within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Resolve design and construction conflicts in the field in real time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or other engineering discipline.
  • 2+ years of professional experience in design or build of mechanical, HVAC, or facility mechanical/electrical/plumbing infrastructure.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Knowledge of HVAC operation and design principles including refrigeration, chillers, boilers, and air handling equipment.
  • Experience creating and implementing process/design solutions with minimal impact to business operations.
  • Familiarity with National Electric Code, ASHRAE, National Fire Protection Association and International Building Code.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design software.
  • Knowledge of processes of governing permitting agencies such as building departments and/or environmental agencies.
  • Understanding of other disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, piping, geotechnical, and surveying.
  • Ability to quickly assess an issue and assist technicians/contractors with troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Experience with project management of construction projects including estimating, cost control, schedule, and contractor management.
