This role as a Mechanical Engineer in Louisville, KY, is pivotal in providing Engineering Production Support (EPS) for submarine weapon system programs. You will act as a crucial interface between design and production engineering, focusing on analyzing and solving problems related to the design and fabrication of mechanical subsystems, assemblies, and components. Your contributions will directly impact the safety and effectiveness of our military operations, making your work both challenging and rewarding. In this position, you will be responsible for analyzing and interpreting design specifications, drawings, documentation, models, and test results to ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards and military specifications. You will serve as the Engineering Support point of contact for submarine programs and components manufactured in Louisville, collaborating closely with production support to create Problem Reports that detail engineering-related issues. Your role will involve developing timely solutions to complex problems and coordinating effective fixes through various engineering processes. Additionally, you will maintain the Variance control process for production-related variations from the technical data package (TDP), ensuring that all necessary approvals are obtained. You will also assist in special projects aimed at improving work effectiveness and relationships between design and production teams. This includes recommending design enhancements and using CAD tools to define current characteristics that will enable timely solutions to production issues. Your daily coordination with onsite Operations, Quality, and Supply Chain teams will be essential in maintaining a safe work environment and ensuring compliance with safety objectives and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and interpret design specifications, drawings, documentation, models, and test results to ensure compliance with engineering standards and military specifications.
  • Serve as an Engineering Support point of contact for submarine programs and components manufactured in Louisville.
  • Work with production support to create Problem Reports detailing engineering-related issues with items in production.
  • Develop timely, complex and non-complex solutions to problems and coordinate effective fixes through Problem Reports, Variances, and configuration notes.
  • Communicate and collaborate with EPS, Integrated Program Teams (IPT), and Program members to drive issues to closure.
  • Maintain the Variance control process for production-related variations from the technical data package (TDP).
  • Assist in assigned special projects and/or process improvement teams to improve work effectiveness and relationships between Design and Production.
  • Recommend design enhancements for the system, subsystem, or component design to the design engineering group.
  • Use CAD tools and basic measuring equipment to define current characteristics that will enable timely solutions to production issues.
  • Daily coordination with onsite Operations, Quality, and Supply Chain teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or closely related degree from an accredited college or university.
  • 1+ years experience in an engineering/production support role.
  • Strong organizational skills and proven ability to coordinate multiple priorities to achieve a deliverable deadline.
  • Knowledge of fundamental mechanical concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Experience using 3D CAD Software such as PTC Creo (Pro/Engineer, ProductView).
  • Ability to create/maintain large Excel spreadsheets.
  • Ability to solve basic technical design and development problems.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with customers to solve technical problems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience supporting engineering in a production environment where weldments, fabrication of machined parts, and assembly, integration, and testing of subsystems on equipment is performed.
  • Familiarity with relevant military and commercial design standards.
  • Familiarity with PTC CREO.
  • Familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing ASME Y14.5-2009.
