About the position

The Mechanical Engineer III position within the Facilities Planning and Management (FP&M) department focuses on enhancing HVAC, mechanical, and plumbing systems in a university setting. This senior-level role requires extensive knowledge of mechanical systems engineering and involves overseeing engineering projects, providing technical consultation, and contributing to maintenance planning.

Responsibilities

  • Originates formal project requests.
  • Oversees all phases of assigned standard engineering projects, ensuring successful completion within time and budget constraints.
  • Completes complex engineering projects.
  • Serves as a consultant to other FP&M departments, providing technical information and engineering recommendations.
  • Contributes to capital renewal planning committee.
  • May guide and train less experienced engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or construction engineering.
  • 5 years of related experience.
  • State of Iowa Professional Engineering License.
  • Experience in the preparation of plans and specifications for educational/institutional, industrial or commercial facilities.
  • Experience estimating mechanical construction and operating/life cycle costs.
  • AutoCAD or Revit experience.
