About the position

As a Mechanical Engineer Intern at Holcim for the Summer of 2025, you will be part of a transformative journey aimed at building progress for people and the planet. This 10-week paid internship, commencing on May 27th, 2025, will be based at our cement plant in Fredonia, KS. The role is designed for students who are passionate about sustainability and eager to learn and grow within a high-performance culture. You will gain hands-on experience in cement production while working closely with a team of experienced engineers and professionals. Your responsibilities will include assisting in the maintenance, repair, and optimization of mechanical equipment, as well as reviewing and interpreting existing P&ID drawings to make necessary updates based on engineering changes or field data. You will also have the opportunity to create and modify P&ID drawings using AutoCAD software, ensuring accurate representation of piping systems and instrumentation. Collaboration with senior engineers will be key as you interpret P&ID drawings and understand the layout of equipment and instrumentation. Safety is paramount, and you will assist in implementing and monitoring safety protocols to ensure compliance with industry standards. At the end of your internship, you will present your learnings and contributions to our executive leadership team, showcasing your growth and the value you added during your time with us.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the maintenance, repair, and optimization of mechanical equipment.
  • Review and interpret existing P&ID drawings to make necessary updates based on engineering changes or field data.
  • Assist in creating and modifying P&ID drawings using AutoCAD software.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to interpret P&ID drawings and understand the layout of equipment and instrumentation.
  • Assist in the implementation and monitoring of safety protocols and procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Utilize a range of skills and knowledge in day-to-day operations, working collaboratively to achieve team and company goals.
  • Present learnings and contributions to the executive leadership team at the end of the internship.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program majoring in Mechanical Engineering, Maintenance Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong academic performance with a solid understanding of engineering principles.
  • Geographic flexibility to work at various sites.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • High energy and a proactive approach to tackling new challenges.
  • A team player who can collaborate across different levels of the organization.
  • Willingness to spend significant time in the field, gaining hands-on experience and firsthand knowledge of business operations.
