About the position

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern at our Kaukauna, Wisconsin plant for the summer of 2025. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a paper manufacturing environment, where you will assist in troubleshooting process and reliability problems, as well as executing maintenance activities. As an intern, you will be part of a team-focused environment that emphasizes professional development and personal growth. You will be expected to follow Ahlstrom's manufacturing and hygiene processes, procedures, and policies to ensure safety, quality, and regulatory compliance for each grade of paper produced. In this role, you will review, develop, and implement preventative and predictive maintenance processes aimed at reducing unplanned downtime and increasing overall asset efficiency. You will collaborate with plant teams and maintenance personnel to identify and plan daily, weekly, and shutdown work. Additionally, you will assist with multiple capital and maintenance projects, initiate and facilitate continuous improvement projects within the maintenance area, and investigate maintenance needs to support operations. Your responsibilities will also include supporting maintenance craftsmen with their daily tasks, ordering equipment and parts from suppliers, documenting equipment specifications and history, providing maintenance coverage for start-ups from outages, and assisting craftsmen in performing repairs when necessary. This internship is designed to provide you with valuable experience and skills that will benefit your future career in engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Follow Ahlstrom's manufacturing and hygiene processes, procedures, and policies to meet safety, quality, and regulatory compliance requirements.

Requirements

  • Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
  • Enrolled in an Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or related degree program.
  • Living in or willing to relocate to the Kaukauna, Wisconsin area from June - December 2025.
  • Ability to work full-time for the duration of the position.
  • Strong desire to work within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong technical aptitude and proven problem-solving abilities.
