Responsibilities

  • Develop or reuse system design solution to meet customer requirements.
  • Partner with designers and project team to deliver complete design package (drawings, BOMs, etc.).
  • Design and develop mechanical subsystems, including welded steel structures, pressure vessels, piping systems, simple and complex mechanisms, rotating equipment, and process equipment.
  • Execute FEA analysis and calculations for substantiation of mechanical subsystems to assure compliance with self-derived and customer requirements.
  • Perform engineering tasks on schedule and within budget.
  • Ensure system design aligns with as-sold scope, customer requirements, quality standards, and industry codes.
  • Communicate regularly with project team on status, issues, and variances to plan.
  • Document and present work in accordance with quality requirements.
  • Prepare design criteria, calculation packages, procurement specifications, technical reports, validation plans, and product manuals.
  • Participate and lead internal and customer design reviews.
  • Interface with procurement, production, and installation teams to quickly resolve issues discovered during assembly and test.
  • Travel to customer and subcontractor sites for design reviews, site surveys, and system commissioning.
  • Assist marketing in developing proposals for future work.
  • Develop concepts, cost estimates, proposal write-ups, analyses, options, and recommendations.

Requirements

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering.
  • 5+ years of related experience or a combination of education and experience equivalent to above.
  • Experience with design & analysis of welded steel structures.
  • Experience with design & analysis of fluid packages or process equipment (valves, filters, pumps, instruments, etc. for pneumatic, hydraulic, fuel, and/or cooling water systems).
  • Proficiency with (FEA) Finite Element Analysis. ANSYS experience preferred.
  • Experience with 3D CAD modeling. SolidWorks experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of fabrication methods including forming, welding, machining, and additive manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with GD&T.
  • Familiarity with risk assessments, FMEA and HAZOP analysis.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and leadership skills, demonstrated initiative and attention to completeness, accuracy, and detail.
  • Must be a self-starter, able to balance priorities between multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet budgets and schedules.
  • Ability to work effectively and productively as an individual contributor and collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Jet engine test and design experience.
  • Design & analysis experience of pressure vessels & piping systems (ASME BPVC, B31.3, PED, GB150, etc.).
  • Design & analysis experience of rotating equipment (driveshafts, bearings, dynamometers, couplings, torquemeters, etc.).
  • Design & analysis of polymer composite materials.
