Harley Ellis Devereaux is actively growing our Engineering staff across the country. As a part of this effort, we are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team in our Mission Critical Sector. This role offers the successful candidate the opportunity to grow with the company and partner with team members across the country. As a Mechanical Engineer at HED, you will be responsible for the design and technical systems for large, complex projects from concept development through construction administration, while providing leadership to less tenured engineers and engineering designers. You will have guidance from the local Mechanical Engineering Discipline Leader, supporting and advising you on your approach and engineering decisions. In this position, you will engage with various system types, including HVAC and Plumbing, and will have experience in Mission Critical/Data Center projects. Familiarity with sustainable design approaches and their related project impacts is essential. Comfort working across different markets, such as Science + Technology (Data Centers, laboratories, fabrication facilities), Higher Education, Multifamily Residential, and Healthcare, is also required. Your responsibilities will include directing and overseeing project team members within the discipline, monitoring staff to produce quality engineering experiences for clients, and working with engineers and teams remote to the home office location. You will also be responsible for reviewing, digesting, and responding to RFPs in a timely manner, participating in the development of the project cost model, and ensuring the design team meets its goals. You will create building system concepts and drive the documentation process from schematics through construction administration phases within the discipline, engage in early project charettes, prepare and document required code research, and maintain the Mechanical Basis of Design Journal throughout the project life. Additionally, you will prepare and monitor project status reports, conduct material and product research, function as Discipline Team Leader on projects when assigned, attend project meetings, and represent HED as necessary. You will also interface with other Discipline Team Leaders to ensure top-level coordination and design development, respond to client questions and requests promptly, document RFI responses, and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Beyond project-related duties, you will be expected to embrace and improve HED workflows, mentor and support engineers, provide feedback on performance, identify opportunities for service quality improvement, participate in in-house training activities, and engage in industry-focused professional organizations.
