About the position

Harley Ellis Devereaux is actively expanding its Engineering staff across the country, and we are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team in the Mission Critical Sector. This position offers a unique opportunity for the successful candidate to grow with the company while collaborating with team members nationwide. As a Mechanical Engineer at HED, you will be responsible for the design and technical systems for large, complex projects, guiding them from concept development through to construction administration. You will provide leadership to less experienced engineers and engineering designers, ensuring that projects are executed with the highest quality and efficiency. You will receive guidance from the local Mechanical Engineering Discipline Leader, who will support and advise you on your engineering decisions and approaches. In this role, you will engage with various system types, including HVAC and plumbing, and will have experience in Mission Critical/Data Center projects. Familiarity with sustainable design approaches and their impacts on projects is essential. You will need to effectively engage with governmental agencies and be comfortable working across different markets, such as Science + Technology, Higher Education, Multifamily Residential, and Healthcare. Your responsibilities will include directing and overseeing project team members, monitoring staff to ensure quality engineering experiences for clients, and collaborating with remote teams. You will also be involved in reviewing and responding to RFPs, developing project cost models, and ensuring that design teams meet their goals. Your project-related duties will include creating building system concepts, driving the documentation process from schematics through construction administration, and preparing and documenting required code research. You will maintain a Mechanical Basis of Design Journal throughout the project lifecycle, prepare project status reports, and conduct material and product research as needed. As a Discipline Team Leader on assigned projects, you will attend project meetings, interface with other Discipline Team Leaders, and respond promptly to client inquiries. Non-project-related duties will involve mentoring and supporting engineers, providing performance feedback, identifying opportunities for service quality improvement, and participating in training and professional organizations. To qualify for this position, a Bachelor's degree is required, or sufficient experience in lieu thereof. A Professional Engineering License or the ability to become licensed within one year is necessary, along with a preference for LEED Accreditation and IES-VE Modeling experience. Revit BIM design experience is required, and a minimum of seven years' experience in the A/E industry is preferred, particularly in Mission Critical/Data Center projects. Strong organizational skills, good communication abilities, and the capacity to motivate and mentor staff are essential. You should be detail-oriented, self-motivated, enthusiastic, and flexible, with the ability to work well under deadlines.
