About the position

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for applying engineering principles to design and improve products, ensuring they meet customer requirements while overseeing production and shipping processes. This role emphasizes collaboration with sales and customers, technical communication, and project management within an employee-owned company dedicated to innovation and craftsmanship.

Responsibilities

• Design and modify new and existing parts to enhance manufacturability and meet customer needs.
• Review quoting opportunities and support the sales team with product expertise.
• Review contracts and ensure information is transferred to relevant groups (engineering, quality, production).
• Communicate with customers regarding design changes and technical information.
• Perform failure analysis and provide solutions based on findings.
• Collaborate with vendors to evaluate options for customer solutions.
• Manage projects and provide engineering oversight during fabrication.
• Occasionally travel to customer sites to support sales and provide technical expertise.
• Establish standards and best practices for engineering processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or similar education combined with experience.
• Minimum of 3+ years' experience in Engineering in a steel manufacturing environment.
• Welding knowledge preferred and exposure to ASME or AWS code work is a plus.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings.
• Proficient with technology, especially Microsoft Office and 3D Modeling software (SolidWorks preferred).
• Strong analytical skills using drawing and math tools.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Desire to learn, grow, and advance within the organization.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a steel manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of ASME or AWS code work.
