About the position

The EADS Group, Inc. is seeking a full-time Mechanical Engineer to join our Architecture Department in Somerset, PA. Established in 1955, we are an employee-owned firm specializing in Engineering, Architecture, and Design Services, with a workforce of over 250 employees across nine office locations in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and West Virginia. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in preparing HVAC and plumbing construction documents, which include conducting site investigations, creating detailed drawings, specifications, and reports for a variety of building types, including commercial, residential, municipal, and institutional projects. In this position, the Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for designing ductwork, natural gas piping, and hot/cold water systems, as well as sanitary and other HVAC and plumbing plans. This role requires performing HVAC load calculations, equipment sizing, and selections to ensure optimal system performance. The engineer will coordinate with clients, architects, contractors, and other design team members, ensuring effective communication and collaboration throughout the project lifecycle. Additionally, the engineer will engage with equipment vendors and manufacturers' representatives to select and specify building systems equipment. The role also involves conducting job site observations, surveys, and inspections as necessary to ensure compliance with design specifications and project requirements. The Mechanical Engineer will manage projects, conduct meetings with clients, and perform construction administration activities, interfacing with contractors, owners, and vendors. Mentorship of engineering and design technicians is also a key responsibility, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare HVAC and plumbing construction documents including site investigations, drawings, specifications, and reports for commercial, residential, municipal and institutional buildings.
  • Design ductwork, natural gas piping, hot/cold water, sanitary, and other HVAC & plumbing plans including associated details, diagrams, and specifications.
  • Perform HVAC load calculations, equipment sizing and selections.
  • Coordinate with clients, architects, contractors, design team members and support staff.
  • Communicate with equipment vendors and manufacturers' representatives for selection and specification of Building Systems equipment.
  • Conduct job site observations, surveys and inspections as necessary.
  • Manage projects and conduct project meetings with clients.
  • Perform construction administration activities and interface with contractors, owners and vendors.
  • Collaborate with and mentor engineering and design technicians.

Requirements

  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in HVAC/Mechanical building system design.
  • Experience with AutoCAD is required; Revit software experience is highly preferred.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration is preferred.
  • Minimum requirement of Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) certification with ability to obtain P.E. within 1 year.
