About the position

Saab's Radar Surveillance division in East Syracuse, NY is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join their Mechanical Engineering team. This role is pivotal in the development of mechanical systems and assemblies for various ground-based and shipboard military radar platforms. The Mechanical Engineer will apply mechanical engineering principles to design and develop mechanical components and assemblies, ensuring that they meet the rigorous standards required for military applications. The responsibilities of the Mechanical Engineer will include the creation of both 2D and 3D CAD models of electronic, mechanical, and electro-mechanical components and assemblies. This involves not only the design work but also the documentation of design solutions, which includes preparing reports, engineering drawings, and Bills of Materials. Effective communication across functional teams is essential, as the engineer will work as a key member of a cross-functional team to develop innovative mechanical and electro-mechanical solutions that meet project requirements. In this role, the Mechanical Engineer will be expected to resolve issues that arise during the design, development, and execution phases of mechanical engineering activities. Responsibilities

  • Application of mechanical engineering principles for the design and development of mechanical components and assemblies.
  • Develop CAD 2D and 3D models of electronic, mechanical and electro-mechanical components and assemblies.
  • Documentation of design solutions including reports, engineering drawings and Bill of Materials.
  • Provide effective communication across functional teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design.
  • Understanding of mechanical design philosophy and design process flow.
  • Ability to resolve issues during design, development and execution of mechanical engineering activities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office software applications.
  • Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools.
  • Ability to work with limited/general direction and must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Must hold or be able to obtain U.S. DoD SECRET security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated knowledge of SolidWorks.
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Demonstrated performance and proficiency in the elements of Mechanical design, e.g. analysis and implementation of requirements, developing design concepts, evaluating designs, technical analysis, generating designs, design reviews.
