About the position

The Mechanical Engineer will be an integral member of the Engineering Division at Frontier-Kemper Constructors, Inc. This role is crucial for supporting the design and fabrication of equipment that underpins all Frontier-Kemper construction projects. The Mechanical Engineer will engage in a variety of design work, which includes planning, equipment design and manufacture, permanent facility design, and general problem-solving for all aspects and components of mine hoisting systems, as well as the conveyances for both personnel and materials. The Mechanical Engineering team operates as part of an in-house multi-disciplinary technical unit that provides design, analysis, and consulting services for both internal and external customers. In this capacity, the Mechanical Engineer will interact with peers, consultants, outside vendors, and clients as appropriate. As a Mechanical Engineer at Frontier-Kemper, you will have the opportunity to design mechanical systems, structures, and components. You will assist with modifications to existing equipment, systems, structures, and components, and provide technical support to the Civil, Mining, and FKC - Lake Shore Divisions. Your responsibilities will also include assisting with mechanical plans and technical quotes for systems, structures, and components, ensuring compliance with safety standards related to mechanical systems, structures, and components, and responding to site-based requests for information, including analysis and recommendations. Additionally, you will prepare and present project documents, including calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports, and may be required to travel to site as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical systems, structures, and components.
  • Assist with modifications to existing equipment, systems, structures, and components.
  • Provide technical support to the Civil, Mining, and FKC - Lake Shore Divisions.
  • Assist with mechanical plans and technical quotes for systems, structures, and components.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards related to mechanical systems, structures, and components.
  • Assist in responding to site-based requests for information, including analysis and recommendations.
  • Prepare and present project documents including calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports.
  • Travel to site as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering or closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • 5 or more years of work experience, preferably in a field related to machine design or maintenance.
  • Ability to become a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) within 2 years.
  • Experience with hydraulics, hoists and/or pneumatic systems is desirable.
  • Demonstrated logical problem-solving skills, including conceptual and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of Autodesk Inventor software and Finite Element Analysis software.
  • Advanced computer skills in spreadsheets, word processing, and database software.
  • Good verbal, written and presentation skills.
