About the position

The Mechanical Mechanism Engineer at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) will support the development, qualification, and sustainment of unmanned aircraft. This role involves collaboration with engineering staff to design, analyze, and resolve engineering problems related to aircraft mechanisms, including flight controls and deployment systems. The position offers opportunities for growth within the organization and a hybrid work environment based on project needs.

Responsibilities

  • Designs aircraft mechanisms interfacing flight controls, utility, and deployable equipment.
  • Applies technical knowledge to analyze, investigate and resolve assigned engineering problems.
  • Documents findings, communicates results to engineering staff, and makes technical presentations.
  • May provide direction to design or technical staff and may lead a team of moderately experienced professional staff.
  • May represent the organization as the prime technical contact on small contracts or single component projects.
  • Independently performs difficult/complex engineering work with instructions as to the general expected results.
  • May support implementation and verification of mechanical solutions on aircraft during aircraft build and flight testing.
  • Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a bachelor's or master's degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and six or more years of engineering experience with a bachelor's degree.
  • Must understand engineering concepts, principles, codes, theory, and experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts.
  • Must be able to develop, communicate, and apply new concepts in an evolving environment.
  • Good communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Experience in Matlab or similar required.
  • Experience in Computer Aided Design applications required, NX and CREO desirable.
  • Experience in Finite Element Analysis required, ANSYS desirable.
  • Understanding of aircraft subsystems including electric servos, motion and power mechanical transmission, and hydraulics desirable.
  • Must be able to work both independently and on a team.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required.
