About the position

The Blood Bank Medical Technologist performs routine and complex patient/sample pre-analytical and post-analytical compatibility tests using automated and non-automated methods, proficiency tests, quality control, and preventative maintenance per established policies and procedures. This role provides accurate and reliable analytical results necessary for the diagnosis and treatment of patients. The technologist maintains inventory of supplies, reagents, and blood products, as well as non-analytic equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, cell washers, and centrifuges.

Responsibilities

• Perform all testing as per standard operating procedures.
• Conduct bench work in all trained areas.
• Maintain desired turn-around times for testing.
• Serve as a resource person for technical questions and problem resolution.
• Troubleshoot problem specimens and interact with medical and hospital staff as necessary.
• Assist in training and orienting new lab employees, hospital employees, and students.
• Perform and document quality control as scheduled, resolving all QC failures with immediate corrective action.
• Complete proficiency testing on time and accurately document results.
• Ensure integrity and appropriate use of all IT systems.
• Utilize Information Systems to accurately enter or modify requisitions and patient results.
• Ensure all instruments are properly calibrated and maintenance procedures are performed.
• Communicate problems/issues to the supervisor or designee.
• Provide oversight of technical operations in the absence of the supervisor.

Requirements

• BA/BS Degree in Medical Technology and/or related science.
• New graduates welcome.
