About the position

Walden University is seeking a dedicated Educational Media Specialist to join our Office of Academic Support and Instructional Services (OASIS). This role is pivotal in producing high-quality, innovative content that enhances the learning experience for our undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students. The Educational Media Specialist will collaborate closely with various teams and stakeholders across the university to develop instructional visual images and multimedia components that align with pedagogical objectives. The successful candidate will have a passion for exploring new tools and approaches for media creation, particularly in adapting engaging content from social media platforms for educational purposes. In this position, the Educational Media Specialist will be responsible for creating original video, audio, motion graphics, and other media formats that meet specific learning objectives. This includes working with key stakeholders to ensure that instructional materials are visually dynamic, engaging, and interactive. The role also involves leveraging an asset management system for content searches, ensuring proper tagging, and maintaining accurate archiving of media assets. The Specialist will apply style and formatting guidelines, along with accessibility requirements, to ensure consistency and logic among instructional media elements. Additionally, the Educational Media Specialist will provide technical enhancements such as audio mixing, color correction, and photo enhancements to elevate the quality of the media produced. The role requires staying current with the latest hardware and software technologies, actively participating in team meetings, and maintaining clear communication with team members to ensure adherence to schedules and goals. This position is hybrid, requiring office presence three days a week, and offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the academic success of a diverse student body.

Responsibilities

  • Produce high-quality, innovative content for students.
  • Collaborate with teams and university-wide departments to create original video, audio, motion graphics, and other media.
  • Work with key stakeholders to create instructional material in a visually dynamic and engaging format.
  • Leverage the asset management system for content searches and ensure proper tagging and archiving of media assets.
  • Apply style and formatting guidelines, along with accessibility requirements, to instructional media elements.
  • Provide technical enhancements such as audio mixing, color correction, and photo enhancements.
  • Utilize artistic techniques to add sophistication and engagement value to media projects.
  • Determine the need for additional media assets based on contextual, stylistic, or technical needs.
  • Assist on special video projects for departments or external clients.
  • Ensure timely delivery of assignments with exceptional quality and accuracy.
  • Participate in team meetings and maintain collaborative communication with team members.
  • Stay current with the latest hardware and software technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electronic Media and Film or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in video-based media creation, digital product design, and audiovisual editing.
  • Experience editing educational media is preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Encoder.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Character Animator, Captivate, and Dimension platforms.
  • Ability to apply best practices during media and course development.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Media Asset Management systems.
  • Ability to modify After Effects templates.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of online learning principles and adult learning theory.
