About the position

The Medical Assistant/Certified Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting clinicians in delivering patient care. This position involves preparing exam rooms, assisting with patient examinations, administering medications, and performing diagnostic tests under the supervision of healthcare professionals. The Medical Assistant is responsible for ensuring efficient patient flow and providing patient education, all while maintaining high standards of care and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Escorts patients to exam rooms and interviews them to collect vital signs and basic information.
  • Prepares the exam room and workstation for the clinician, ensuring cleanliness and proper stocking.
  • Assures efficient patient flow by assessing clinician schedules and coordinating with staff to minimize wait times.
  • Prepares patients and assists clinicians with exams and procedures, including positioning and disinfecting.
  • Administers injections and medications after verification by RN or clinician.
  • Performs diagnostic and laboratory tests according to competency standards and protocols.
  • Collects specimens for testing using non-invasive techniques.
  • Performs age-appropriate screenings as directed by the clinician.
  • Removes sutures and/or staples from superficial incisions or lacerations.
  • Applies and removes bandages and dressings as needed.
  • Assists patients with ambulation and transfers, and provides instructions for crutch use.
  • Performs end-of-shift tasks for room closure and equipment cleaning.
  • Follows universal precautions and safety protocols.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a formal Medical Assistant program.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification upon hire and maintain current certification.
  • Knowledge of nursing practices and medical assisting scope of practice in an outpatient setting.
  • Ability to perform phlebotomy and administer injections.
  • Basic computer proficiency in a Windows environment with typing speed of 35 WPM or greater.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification as Medical Assistant.
  • Previous experience working in an outpatient clinic or doctor's office.
  • Typing speed of 45 WPM or greater.
