About the position

The Medical Assistant position at WellSpan Medical Group involves providing safe, therapeutic, and efficient care to patients in an internal medicine setting. The role includes assisting in direct patient care, performing treatments, administering medications under supervision, and educating patients and their families. The Medical Assistant is a key team member in a patient-centered practice, contributing to the development of workflows that enhance patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and document reason for visit and patient vital signs.
  • Collect specimens as directed by the provider and ensure proper handling and storage.
  • Maintain adequate stock of medical supplies and ensure equipment is in good working condition.
  • Prepare patients for scheduled procedures and ensure proper use of Standard Precautions.
  • Arrange for patients' diagnostic and therapeutic services and track follow-up on test results.
  • Prepare and administer vaccines and medications under supervision, following prescribed protocols.
  • Document and process prescription requests and refills as per protocol.
  • Perform basic office procedures and tests as ordered by the provider.
  • Provide patients with care instructions and education as directed by providers.
  • Obtain comprehensive health information from patients and assist providers in determining care urgency.
  • Manage daily patient flow and prioritize care tasks delegated by the care team.
  • Take ownership of office functions and process improvements under supervision.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient health information and complete mandatory education.
  • Support the provider during patient visits by collecting and entering information in the patient record.

Requirements

  • Certificate of completion from an accredited Medical Assistant program (Diploma) or National Medical Assistant Certification upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification upon hire.
  • Completion of required education programs and competency testing needed to perform at an advanced level upon hire.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficient communication skills including SBAR technique.
  • Ability to effectively present clinical information to the care team.
  • Proficient in navigating and entering information into an electronic health record.
  • Self-motivated and dependable.
  • Ability to work independently.
