About the position

As a Medical Assistant at Person Memorial Hospital, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional patient care by assisting in the delivery of medical services with compassion, efficiency, and accuracy. This position involves performing routine clinical and administrative duties in support of the assigned area or office. You will be responsible for triaging incoming patients, performing CPR and other emergency measures when necessary, and escorting patients to exam rooms while taking their histories and vital signs. Your role will also include preparing patients for examination and performing basic diagnostic procedures and specimen collection. In addition to direct patient care, you will monitor and communicate changes in patient conditions, document the care provided, and assist healthcare providers during examinations, treatments, minor surgeries, and physicals. You will ensure that exam rooms are stocked and set up with the necessary equipment and supplies, and you will be responsible for cleaning and sterilizing instruments. Processing referral and prior authorization requests in accordance with company protocol is also part of your duties. Utilizing electronic medical software to record patient information in compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality guidelines is essential. You will dispense medication as directed by providers, collect and process lab specimens, perform glucose monitoring, and provide wound care, including suture removal as directed. Effective communication with patients, pharmacies, and physicians is vital, and you will perform accurate and timely data input into the EMR system. Additionally, you will administer medications, aerosol treatments, oxygen therapy, and conduct drug screens after completing the necessary training. Other tasks and duties may be assigned as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Triage incoming patients; perform CPR and other emergency measures, if necessary.
  • Escorts patients to exam rooms; take histories and vital signs, prepare patients for examination.
  • Performs basic diagnostic procedures and specimen collection.

  • Assists providers in examination and treatment of patients, minor surgeries, and physicals.
  • Stock and set-up exam rooms with necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Cleans and sterilizes instruments.
  • Processes referral and prior authorization requests in accordance with company protocol.
  • Utilizes electronic medical software to record patient information in compliance with HIPAA / confidentiality guidelines.
  • Dispenses medication as directed by providers.
  • Collects and processes lab specimens.
  • Performs glucose monitoring.
  • Provides wound care and perform suture removal as directed by providers.
  • Communicates with the patient, pharmacy, and physician inquiries within the scope of the practice; involve provider as needed.
  • Performs accurate and timely input of data into EMR and Clockwise.
  • Administers IM, SQ, and oral medications as trained under the direction of the provider.
  • Administers aerosol treatments.
  • Applies splints and dressings.
  • Administers oxygen therapy.
  • Performs urine, saliva, hair, and breath alcohol drug screens after successful completion of drug screen training provided by a certified instructor chosen by MedAccess.
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Successful completion of training as a medical assistant.
  • Current and valid certification as a Medical Assistant is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association is required upon hire.
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Ability to use practice management and EMR software with confidence and to utilize online lab programs accurately and independently.
  • Ability to adjust responsibilities to accommodate a fast-paced medical setting.
  • Ability to react calmly in an emergency situation.
