About the position

We are looking for a Medical Assistant / Receptionist in a busy Primary and Urgent Care setting. The primary purpose of this position is as a Medical Assistant, but you may be asked to cover in Reception when staffing requires. This role is essential in ensuring that the office runs smoothly and that patients receive the best possible care. Bilingual Spanish is required for effective communication with our diverse patient population. In this position, you will be responsible for accurately documenting patient history and medications, taking patient vitals, and entering them into the Electronic Health Record (EHR). You will ensure that all data for practice goals for quality measures are followed, obtained, and documented. Additionally, you will be involved in scanning patient-related documents into the EHR, collecting specimens, performing phlebotomy, PT/INR, spirometry, and EKGs, and obtaining prior authorizations for procedures and medications. Communication with the physician and patients regarding messages, labs, and other important information will also be a key part of your responsibilities. You will generate electronic referrals, manage medical supplies inventory, and inform the Office Manager of needed supplies. Training new staff in policies and procedures will also be part of your duties. In the secondary role of Receptionist, you will greet and assist patients, answer phones in a timely manner, take accurate messages, schedule patients based on practice guidelines, and ensure the waiting room is clean and neat. This position requires a proactive approach to patient care and office management, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately documenting patient history and medications
  • Taking patient vitals and entering them into the EHR
  • Ensuring that all data for practice goals for quality measures are followed, obtained and documented
  • Scanning patient related documents into the EHR
  • Collection of specimens, perform phlebotomy, PT/INR, spirometry & EKGs
  • Obtaining prior authorizations for procedures and medications
  • Communicate with the physician and patient regarding messages, labs, etc
  • Returning messages to patients as per the physician's instructions
  • Generating electronic referrals
  • Making sure that medical supplies inventory is sufficient and informing Office Manager of needed supplies
  • Training new staff in policies and procedures
  • Greeting and assisting patients
  • Answering phones in a timely manner
  • Taking accurate and concise messages for the doctors and medical assistants
  • Patient scheduling based on practice guidelines
  • Perform the patient check-in process to ensure accurate collection of information and copayments/co-insurance
  • Verify insurance coverage
  • Making sure that the daily copay/coinsurance collections are correctly documented and proved out at the end of the day
  • Responsible for making sure that the waiting room is kept clean and neat
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Minimum High School Diploma
  • Must have a Medical Assistant Certification
  • Phlebotomy certification
  • EKG certification
  • Basic computer skills required
  • Knowledge of SequelMed Electronic Medical Records (EMR) is a plus (will train)
