About The Position

The Medical Support Specialist (MSS) at Concentra plays a crucial role in delivering exceptional patient care as part of a dedicated healthcare team. This position involves performing routine medical procedures under the supervision of clinicians, ensuring quality care and a positive patient experience. The MSS is responsible for various tasks, including patient preparation for examinations, conducting drug and alcohol testing, and assisting with medical procedures, all while maintaining a clean and efficient work environment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program with completion of an externship preferred, OR at least one year of direct patient care experience as a medical assistant, OR military medical specialist experience.
  • Customarily has at least six months or more of medical assistant experience.
  • Knowledge of medical procedures and medical terminology.
  • Working knowledge of occupational medicine requirements preferred.
  • Outstanding customer service skills and ability to handle sensitive information.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of occupational medicine requirements (state specific) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Department of Transportation (DOT) and Non-DOT drug and alcohol testing.
  • Prepare patients for physical examinations, including taking vital signs and conducting ancillary testing.
  • Perform rapid screening tests (influenza, strep, mono, glucose, etc.).
  • Assist providers during examination and treatment.
  • Perform routine medical procedures as ordered by treating clinician and triage emergent patients as needed.
  • Prepare and assist clinician with procedure set up and injury care.
  • Apply bandages, dressings, and splints as ordered by the treating clinician.
  • Dispense medications and DME as ordered by the treating clinician in accordance with state regulations.
  • Complete quality assurance activities on equipment and medical devices.
  • Maintain supplies, clean rooms and equipment, and stock exam rooms.
  • Notify supervisor immediately if equipment is not functioning properly or supplies are needed.
  • Assist with patient flow and volume in partnership with center leadership.
  • Perform clerical tasks associated with patient care and record keeping.
  • Ensure accuracy in documentation and follow HIPAA guidelines.
