About The Position

The Medical Coding Apprentice/Revenue Assistant position at Pueblo Community Health Center is designed for individuals looking to gain experience in medical coding and revenue cycle management. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Working knowledge of electronic medical record systems preferred.
  • Experience with Medicaid, Medicare, HMO/PPOs, and/or other Third-Party Payers preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and auto insurance as required by law.
  • Basic knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding helpful.
  • Basic knowledge of insurance billing.
  • Ability to understand verbal information/instruction and exchange verbal information with others.
  • Ability to read and understand written materials and compose information/instruction in written form.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in documentation review, coding, and data abstracting of medical/behavioral health service documentation.
  • Mail statements and review account balances.
  • Assist with credit and balance adjustments and submitting claims.
  • Resolve coding issues in a timely manner with the coding supervisor or team member.
  • Correct and resubmit claims based on medical record reviews approved by the coding supervisor.
  • Work with Patient Accounts staff to resolve coding-related denials.
  • Acquire knowledge of coding conventions, guidelines, updates, and regulations governing billing.
  • Communicate feedback regarding documentation issues or recurring errors to the Medical Coding Supervisor.
  • Participate in testing and training of new or existing systems as needed.
  • Analyze account balances to accurately bill patients for balances due.
  • Review aging reports to identify unpaid claims for resolution.
  • Meet and maintain departmental quality and production standards.
  • Participate in Department and General Staff Meetings.
  • Provide assistance to the Patient Accounts team when needed.
