About the position

The Medical Dosimetrist at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center plays a crucial role in the treatment planning process for patients undergoing radiation therapy. This position requires generating clinically acceptable treatment plans that are informed by a deep understanding of various clinical disciplines, including anatomy and physiology, radiation biology, oncology, and radiation safety. The dosimetrist must utilize their knowledge of mathematics, radiation therapy techniques, physics, and technology to create effective treatment strategies that align with the oncologist's directives. In addition to developing treatment plans, the Medical Dosimetrist is responsible for effective communication with the radiation oncologist throughout the planning process. This includes discussing the treatment plan in detail and ensuring that it is clearly communicated to the medical physicist and radiation therapy technologist for implementation. The role demands a high level of precision and collaboration, as the dosimetrist must ensure that all aspects of the treatment plan are understood and executed correctly to provide optimal patient care. The position is full-time, operating on a first shift schedule, and is integral to the Radiation Medicine department at Roswell Park. Responsibilities

  • Generate clinically acceptable treatment plans for radiation therapy.
  • Utilize clinical knowledge in anatomy, physiology, radiation biology, and oncology to inform treatment plans.
  • Communicate effectively with the radiation oncologist during the treatment planning process.
  • Ensure clear communication of treatment plans to the medical physicist and radiation therapy technologist for implementation.
  • Maintain knowledge of radiation safety and protection protocols.
  • Apply mathematics and physics principles in the development of treatment plans.

Requirements

  • Current certification as a Medical Dosimetrist by the Medical Dosimetry Certification Board (MDCB).
  • Graduation from an accredited school, college, or university recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.
  • Strong understanding of anatomy and physiology as it relates to radiation therapy.
  • Knowledge of radiation biology and oncology principles.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Varian Eclipse Treatment Planning System (TPS).
  • Familiarity with MOSAIQ Record and Verify (R&V) system.
  • Graduate of a JRCERT certified school of Medical Dosimetry.
  • Experience with special procedures such as Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT), Total Body Irradiation (TBI), and Brachytherapy.
