Responsibilities

  • Ability to handle stressful situations
  • Ability to work with minimal errors and complete accuracy
  • Ability to operate and communicate clearly on the phone and display good phone etiquette at all times
  • Ability to operate a Laboratory Information System (LIS)
  • Requires fine motor coordination, clear speech, normal hearing, and good visual acuity, including color perception
  • Absolute integrity in the accurate performance and reporting of results
  • Adherence to company safety regulations
  • Adherence to department policies and procedures
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service
  • Reasoning ability and good independent judgment
  • Ability to work well in handling high volume requests in an organized manner being attentive to detail and stipulated deadlines
  • Ability to use microscopes, cell counters, and other sophisticated, automated, and computerized laboratory equipment
  • Ability to perform high complex chemical, biological, hematological, immunologic, microscopic and bacteriological test
  • Ability to evaluate test results
  • Ability to develop and modify procedures under the direction of the supervisor and or manager
  • Ability to perform, analyze, record and monitor quality control to ensure the accuracy of tests
  • Ability to set up, adjust, maintain and clean medical laboratory equipment
  • Ability to determine causes of operating errors and develop appropriate corrective actions
  • Ability to recognize when there is a problem and find a resolution
  • Ability to inspect equipment, kits, or materials utilized for testing to identify the cause of errors, problems or defects
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work in order to achieve quality patient care
  • Ability to work on multiple specimens while maintaining quality and timeliness of specimen test results
  • Ability to instruct staff members and students in regard to established policy and procedures
  • Ability to convey information effectively to others in order to maintain continuity of patient care
  • Consult with a pathologist to determine a final diagnosis when abnormal cells are found
  • Ability to analyze results and relay them to physicians
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • MT or MLS certificate

Nice-to-haves

  • One-year experience as medical technician - Preferred
