About the position

The Medical Laboratory Technician/Technologist plays a crucial role in the Houston market's Physician Office Laboratory, which is COLA accredited and performs over 2 million tests annually. This position is responsible for ensuring patient identification, maintaining a safe work environment, and managing laboratory supplies while collaborating with the laboratory team to provide timely service. The MLT will leverage technical skills and dedication to enhance service delivery to the healthcare team.

Responsibilities

• Verifying patient identification and correctly labeling all specimens using aseptic technique and infection control procedures.
• Performing all waived and moderately complex tests as defined by CLIA '88 accurately and timely.
• Maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by following laboratory standards and complying with legal regulations.
• Ensuring quality control, quality assessment, and implementing corrective actions as needed.
• Calibrating analyzers and laboratory equipment to ensure accurate operations.
• Completing preventative maintenance and troubleshooting equipment malfunctions.
• Managing laboratory supplies inventory, anticipating needs, and placing orders for supplies.
• Preparing reports of technological findings by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.
• Interacting with personnel, physicians, and patients regarding laboratory orders and results while maintaining workflow.

Requirements

• Associate degree (MLT) and ASCP, AMT, HHS certification or completion of 50+ weeks of military training as a medical laboratory specialist required.
• High school diploma required.
• Availability for day shift.
• Diverse history in the clinical laboratory field.
• Experience with LIS and EMR is a plus.
