The position involves providing specialized testing and support for the CoreLab, performing complex technical assignments, and assisting in the training of staff and residents in histotechnology and related areas of surgical pathology.

Responsibilities

  • Train new staff and residents in all aspects of the preparation of tissue specimens for microscopic examination.
  • Perform complex preventive maintenance on laboratory instrumentation including cryostats, tissue processors, and embedding centers.
  • Assist in the planning of the daily and weekly staff schedule.
  • Coordinate laboratory efforts for research projects.
  • Perform and train staff and residents in the preparation of STAT frozen sections.
  • Perform immunofluorescence of frozen sections of skin, oral and kidney biopsies as needed.
  • Enforce safety and environmental quality assurance protocols in the Laboratory.
  • Assist with grossing in small specimens under the supervision of the Gross Room Supervisor/Pathologist's Assistants.
  • Assist in the process of accurately billing for special stains.
  • Perform the duties of the Clinical Technologist III - Histotechnologist as needed.

Requirements

  • AAS degree in a biological science plus 3-5 years experience in a histology laboratory or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Board Certification in Histotechnology.
  • Must be NYS Licensed or eligible for NYS licensure.
  • Proficient in all aspects of histology laboratory practice.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to teach others.
