About the position

The Medical Technologist Sr. performs at an advanced level in various routine or special chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic laboratory tests. The duties may be specific to a particular area of the laboratory, such as chemistry, hematology, and microbiology. Additionally, the Medical Technologist Sr. may assist in the supervision and training of lower-level Medical Technologists.

Responsibilities

  • Performs an acceptable productivity level without a significant error rate on a variety of medical technology procedures including tests on cells and microorganisms in body fluids, examining growth patterns of bacteria and fungus, analyzing blood and other body fluids, and performing blood compatibility testing.
  • Demonstrates initiative in adapting to changes or unusual circumstances, promoting cooperation and minimizing disruption to the working environment.
  • Assists in care and maintenance of laboratory work area and furnishings/equipment.
  • Coordinates, plans, and utilizes time efficiently to prioritize and organize duties while remaining flexible to meet laboratory needs.
  • Maintains an inventory of supplies in work areas to ensure efficient departmental operations and avoid duplication of energy and services.
  • Performs quality control and instrument check procedures and maintains accurate and complete records of daily activities.
  • Combines ethical judgment with technical skill within policy and legal guidelines in decision making processes and performance of procedures.
  • Observes and adheres to all departmental and hospital policies and procedures, and follows all safety, quality assurance, and infection control standards.
  • Exhibits a professional manner, appearance, and performance in job-related duties to maintain high standards in healthcare service delivery.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with patients, physicians, pathologists, staff, and other individuals.
  • May schedule and assign work to staff members, monitor work quality and quantity, and ensure efficient departmental operations by providing supervisory support when needed.
  • May provide quality training and orientation for assigned employees, informs co-workers of relevant departmental policies and procedures, and allocates tasks to co-workers as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Three years clinical laboratory experience.
