About the position

Provides quality clinical information by accurately performing laboratory tests and procedures. Works effectively with others to meet patient and care provider needs. Actively promotes a lean work culture by performing group leader duties to ensure consistent use of lean principles and processes, including continually seeking work process improvements. Assists leadership team with administrative and technical support as required. Recognizes necessity of taking ownership of own motivation, morale, performance, and professional development. Strives for behavior consistent with being committed to the lab's and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta's mission, goals, and values.

Responsibilities

  • Performs technical functions of Medical Technologist 2 as outlined in job description and other duties as required by department.
  • Follows departmental and system policies and procedures, including those pertaining to compliance and safety.
  • Performs administrative tasks, and ensures services are delivered in a fiscally responsible manner through management of staff workflow, oversight of standing orders, management of reagent cost and usage.
  • Oversight of quality control and instrument validations, maintenance review, instrument troubleshooting.
  • Taking appropriate corrective action as warranted, maintaining accuracy and precision.
  • Responsible for assigning and resulting proficiency testing surveys and working up biases/unacceptable.
  • Ensures department is state of inspection readiness, assists in quality audits, preparation of regulatory crosswalks.
  • Assist and provide feedback for employee assessments.
  • Participation in a laboratory or System Committee.
  • Actively promotes a lean culture by performing duties to promote an understanding and consistent use of lean principals and processes.
  • Facilitates at least 3 leadership approved lean process improvement ideas.
  • Performs duties, makes decisions, takes actions, and continually strives to improve work processes using an awareness of how work performed is valued by the customers.

Requirements

  • 4 or more previous experience in a high complexity clinical laboratory.
  • Bachelor of Science in medical technology, chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution.
  • American Society for Clinical Pathology or equivalent medical technologist or medical laboratory scientist certification.
  • Eligible for Georgia Department of Human Resources supervisor classification.
  • Must have technical expertise for all procedures within a functional area.
  • Independent judgment and responsibility.
  • Strong organizational capabilities, good communication skills, enthusiasm, and willingness to work with others.
  • Strives for adult-adult relationship with colleagues, subordinates, and superiors.
  • Ability to oversee complex projects with minimal supervision.
