Medical Technologist ASCP - Point of Care - 24 hrs - Day Shift - wknd & holiday rotation

About the position

Saint Francis Hospital & Medical Center in Hartford, CT is seeking an experienced Medical Technologist to join our team. This role involves developing, implementing, coordinating, and maintaining programs to bring testing closer to the patient, ensuring faster turnaround times for treatment, and maintaining compliance with regulatory agencies. The position offers a $4,000 sign-on bonus and requires a commitment of 24 hours per week on day shifts, with rotating weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Establishes and monitors quality control/quality assurance (QC/QA) programs involving POC testing.
• Ensures compliance with accreditation agencies and federal regulations.
• Spearheads biannual CAP site surveys for POC testing.
• Provides all POC training for patient care providers, including initial instruction and yearly validation.
• Maintains records and a database for competency.
• Develops policies and procedures related to POC testing.
• Investigates, procures, and disseminates information regarding manufacturer guidelines and federal, and CAP regulations.
• Evaluates requests for new POC testing, including feasibility study of clinical necessity and cost impact.
• Presents findings and cost analysis to Lab administration for approval.
• Establishes criteria for vendor bidding and collaborates with Supply Chain Department to develop and negotiate contracts.
• Promotes a continuous learning environment by providing education and guidance to physicians and staff as required.
• Participates in continuing education whenever possible.
• Develops POC audits and other QA indicators ensuring that the program meets Quality guidelines.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or clinical laboratory science required.
• ASCP, CLS or NCA certification required.
• Three to five (3-5) years of clinical laboratory experience required.
