About the position

The Medical Technologist - Chemistry position at UAB Medicine involves performing and reporting results of laboratory procedures on body tissues, fluids, and other substances. The role includes assisting with the evaluation of new instruments and methods, quality control, and troubleshooting, while also supporting educational sessions and quality improvement activities within the laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex laboratory procedures on body tissues, fluids, and other substances.
  • Check accuracy and report results of laboratory tests.
  • Assist supervisor and/or team lead with evaluating new instruments and methods.
  • Prepare reagents and maintain quality control information.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and perform maintenance as needed.
  • Assist with apheresis procedures and bone marrows.
  • Coordinate educational sessions and computer operations within the lab.
  • Participate in quality control and improvement activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory or a related field.
  • Completion of a twelve-month internship in a Medical Technology program approved by NAACLS.
  • Certification from ASCP or AMT must be obtained within fifteen months from date of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification may be required within thirty days from date of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Familiarity with laboratory quality control processes.
  • Knowledge of apheresis procedures.
