About the position

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, Ingalls Memorial Hospital, as a Medical Technologist (Generalist) in the Blood Bank and Core Lab department. Here, you will perform routine tests, operate state-of-the-art instruments, and care of blood services support for the hospital and patients. You will be responsible for quality control, instrument maintenance, and method development to support a broad menu of routine and esoteric tests, including antibody identification. This department provides laboratory testing to various related and unrelated health care entities, managed care organizations and non-affiliated hospitals, outpatient clinics and private physicians' offices. We offer a full range of diagnostic services in both clinical and anatomical pathology and have various areas of expertise. This department is the Core Lab and Blood Bank Laboratory. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain, process, analyze, and report patient test results.
  • Perform and interpret quality control and implement corrective action.
  • Perform basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Provide technical assistance to customers when appropriate.
  • Pursue continuing education opportunities.
  • Observe and adhere to all corporate compliance requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve departmental efficiency.
  • Control and maintain inventory and supplies for section.
  • Perform standard, specialized automated and non-automated laboratory techniques.
  • Operate all laboratory instruments within their section.
  • Troubleshoot instrument malfunction and perform major repairs.
  • Maintain records/documentation and process data.
  • Prepare samples for analysis and determine acceptability of samples.
  • Accurately verify results within time line limit.
  • Evaluate and interpret results, recognizing and reporting abnormal results.
  • Adhere to Standard Precautions, Hospital and Laboratory safety policies.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of medical laboratory technical procedures, concepts, and applications.
  • B.S. in biological science and successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Medical Technology program.
  • MT (ASCP), MT eligible or equivalent.
  • Alternate: A B.S. degree with 32 semester hours in Biology and Chemistry and a MLT (ASCP) certification with three years full time experience in a clinical laboratory.

Nice-to-haves

  • At least one year of pertinent laboratory experience.
  • Knowledge and ability to use laboratory/hospitals information systems.
  • Knowledge and ability to use automated and conventional laboratory equipment.
