About the position

The Medical Technologist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organizations Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. This position comes with a $7,500 sign-on bonus. The role involves performing all aspects of pre-analytic workflow, analytical testing, and post-analytic workflow in the laboratory to ensure accurate results are reported within established time frames. The Medical Technologist will also be responsible for maintaining test system integrity, performing quality control, and troubleshooting any issues that arise during testing. Additionally, the position requires effective communication with physicians and nurses to resolve any unclear or ambiguous orders.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all aspects of pre-analytic workflow appropriate for the specific laboratory section.
  • Verifies orders and non-patient information according to established protocol.
  • Handles unresolved orders and troubleshoots where needed.
  • Collects, receives, and processes specimens, ensuring they are correctly labeled and appropriate for testing.
  • Performs analytical testing appropriate for the specific laboratory section.
  • Maintains test system integrity through preventative maintenance and quality control.
  • Performs specimen preparation and transfers specimens to approved testing locations.
  • Prioritizes testing based on assignment or established priorities and completes testing within defined turn-around-times.
  • Reviews results for completeness, correctness, and consistency, providing accurate interpretations as necessary.
  • Recognizes unusual test results and completes indicated reflex testing or follow-up actions.
  • Stores specimens and related materials according to protocols for location and duration.
  • Verifies and reports results, generating written reports according to established protocol.
  • Participates in the training of new employees and students, and performs operational review of new procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biology, Chemistry, or Allied Health qualifying the applicant to take the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification examination.
  • General MLS or MT(ASCP) certification or eligible or Categorical BB, C, H, or M (ASCP) Certification or eligible.
