The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) is seeking a dedicated Medical Technologist I to join its Clinical Pathology team. This position is crucial for performing accurate, timely, and comprehensive clinical pathology testing of veterinary specimens, which supports the diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and monitoring of diseases in animals. The testing methods employed in this role encompass various areas, including hematology, chemistry, cytology, immunology, and urinalysis. The Medical Technologist I will adhere to the standards set forth by the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD), Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), and ISO 17025, as well as the policies and procedures of the organizational quality management system. The testing performed in this role supports diagnostic services for veterinarians, academic and biomedical research, and the life sciences industry. In this full-time position, the Medical Technologist I will work 39 hours per week, primarily during normal business hours from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with some flexibility required to meet the needs of the business. This may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and University holidays. The role is located onsite in Ithaca, NY, and is a three-year term position with the potential for extension based on funding and performance. The successful candidate will be expected to manage competing priorities effectively, handle sensitive information with discretion, and demonstrate excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Additionally, the position requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods while using laboratory equipment. The Medical Technologist I will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with safety protocols, including receiving the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series, which will be covered by the department. This role is integral to the Animal Health Diagnostic Center (AHDC), which provides high-volume veterinary diagnostic services that promote animal health and welfare. The Clinical Pathology laboratory section specifically offers timely and accurate laboratory testing of animal specimens, supporting a wide range of clients, including the Cornell University Hospital for Animals and private veterinary practitioners.
