About the position

The position is for a medical technologist at Piedmont Fayette Lab, where the individual will independently perform laboratory procedures for which they have been trained and demonstrated competency. The role involves conducting laboratory testing on patients of all ages, utilizing professional knowledge of laboratory procedures to execute, interpret, and analyze results accurately and in a timely manner. The work schedule includes a mix of shifts from 11:00 AM to 11:30 PM and 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, totaling 36 hours per week, with every other weekend required. New hires must be willing to train on the day shift from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM for the first week of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Independently perform laboratory procedures for which the technologist has been trained and demonstrated competency.
  • Conduct laboratory testing on patients of all ages.
  • Execute, interpret, and analyze laboratory results accurately and in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Sufficient college and/or technical school courses and clinical training to satisfy the requirements for testing and certification as a medical technologist by an approved certifying agency.
  • Certification as a medical technologist or medical laboratory scientist by ASCP, AMT, or AAB according to Georgia regulations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in clinical laboratory science, biomedical science, medical technology, or in a life/biological science (biology, biochemistry, microbiology, etc.) preferred.
  • One year of supervised clinical experience as a medical technologist in a clinical setting preferred.
  • Competency in areas of the laboratory including chemistry, hematology, coagulation, blood bank, and microbiology preferred.
