About the position

Sibley Memorial Hospital, a member of Johns Hopkins Medicine, has a distinguished history of serving the community since its founding in 1890. As a not-for-profit and full-service community hospital, Sibley offers medical, surgical, intensive care, obstetric, oncology, orthopedic and skilled nursing inpatient services, as well as a 24-hour Emergency Department. Sibley's campus is also home to Grand Oaks, an assisted living residence; a medical building with physician offices and ambulatory surgery and imaging centers. This position is for a Medical Technologist I, II, or III in the Blood Bank department. The role involves performing a variety of both routine and complex clinical laboratory tests in accordance with established standards and procedures with minimal supervision. The level of supervision is determined by skill level and experience. The candidate will have a working knowledge of equipment, processing of specimens, test results, and time constraints of tests in their assigned area. If trained as generalists, they may be assigned to any area or combination of areas. A thorough understanding of medical technology as it relates to their specific job category is required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of medical technology as it relates to their specific job category.

Requirements

  • Formal educational background in biology, chemistry, hematology, immunohematology, and microbiology normally acquired through completion of a four-year post-secondary school program in clinical laboratory technology.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist (Two years at JHHS facility) and verified/recognized certification.
  • Completion of clinical rotation during the final year of bachelor's degree program or equivalent clinical lab experience or coursework specific to the discipline.
  • Demonstrate certification accepted by the Department of Pathology, or MS degree plus 2 years relevant clinical laboratory experience in an approved CLIA laboratory.
  • Verification of education and current accepted certification is required.
  • Certification in Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science, MT, MLS, ASCP or a nationally recognized professional organization is required.
  • Authorization to Work in the United States: Applicants who require sponsorship now or in the future will not be considered for this position.
