About the position
Sibley Memorial Hospital, a member of Johns Hopkins Medicine, has a distinguished history of serving the community since its founding in 1890. As a not-for-profit and full-service community hospital, Sibley offers medical, surgical, intensive care, obstetric, oncology, orthopedic and skilled nursing inpatient services, as well as a 24-hour Emergency Department. Sibley's campus is also home to Grand Oaks, an assisted living residence; a medical building with physician offices and ambulatory surgery and imaging centers. In the Chemistry Lab, the position will involve performing a variety of both routine and complex clinical laboratory tests in accordance with established standards and procedures with minimal supervision. The level of supervision is determined by skill level and experience. The role requires a working knowledge of equipment, processing of specimens, test results, and time constraints of tests in the assigned area. If trained as generalists, the individual may be assigned to any area or combination of areas, and must have a thorough understanding of medical technology as it relates to their specific job category.
Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of both routine and complex clinical laboratory tests in accordance with established standards and procedures with minimal supervision.
- Maintain a working knowledge of equipment, processing of specimens, test results, and time constraints of tests in the assigned area.
- May be assigned to any area or combination of areas if trained as generalists.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of medical technology as it relates to the specific job category.
Requirements
- Formal educational background in biology, chemistry, hematology, immunohematology, and microbiology through completion of a four-year post-secondary school program in clinical laboratory technology.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist, with at least two years at a JHHS facility and verified/recognized certification.
- Completion of clinical rotation during the final year of the bachelor's degree program or equivalent clinical lab experience or coursework specific to the discipline.
- Demonstrate certification accepted by the Department of Pathology, or possess an MS degree plus 2 years of relevant clinical laboratory experience in an approved CLIA laboratory.
- Certification in Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science, MT, MLS, ASCP or a nationally recognized professional organization is required.
