About the position
Nemours is seeking a Medical Technologist (Microbiology), Casual/PRN, to join our Nemours Children's Health team in Orlando, Florida. Located in Orlando, Fla., Nemours Children's Hospital is the newest addition to the Nemours integrated healthcare system. Our 130-bed pediatric hospital also features the area's only 24-hour Emergency Department designed just for kids as well as outpatient pediatric clinics including several specialties previously unavailable in the region. Responsibilities
- Performance of a variety of analytical procedures of moderate to high complexity, using manual and automated methods, and through a variety of clinical laboratory methodologies.
- Perform all required calibration, quality control, statistical calculations and other process control and mathematical functions.
- Understand concepts of Microbiology including sample collection, transport, sample set up, identification and susceptibility testing of organisms.
- Routinely performs a range of clinical analyses in molecular department by properly utilizing a variety of methodologies and instrumentation according to laboratory policies and procedures.
- Assist in the development and validation of various complex tests for implementation in the microbiology and molecular department.
- Order, access, status and report results of tests performed on patient specimens, monitoring a variety of critical clinical issues.
- Use, calibrate and perform troubleshooting and maintenance on laboratory equipment following established procedures.
- Review technical and administrative procedures as assigned.
- Handle supply and inventory issues as required/assigned.
- Answer telephone as assigned and interact with a variety of individuals including physicians and other clinical staff.
- Follow all laboratory and hospital safety policies.
- Train others as assigned (e.g., students, new employees, etc.).
- Participate in department and hospital quality and improvement programs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Lab program or Science related program required.
- Minimum of six (6) months experience required. Experience can include clinical practicum time as a student.
- Florida Technologist License in Chemistry, Hematology, Serology, Microbiology and Immunohematology (Required).
- Florida Technologist License in Molecular Pathology preferred.
- Nationally/Internationally recognized certification as a Medical Technologist or equivalent (ASCP, AAB or AMT) (Required).
- Willingness to learn other areas is a must.
