About the position

Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, CT is seeking a part-time Microbiology Lab Technician to provide highly skilled analysis of blood, fluids, and tissue samples in the Microbiology section of the Lab. This role is vital to the diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients. The position is per diem, requiring the ability to work full 8-hour shifts, a minimum of two shifts per month, one weekend every three months, and one holiday per year.

Responsibilities

  • Determines normal and abnormal components of body fluids by conducting chemical analyses of blood, urine, spinal fluids, and gastric juices.
  • Analyzes blood cells by counting and identifying cells, using microscopic techniques and procedures.
  • Ensures operation of analyzers and all laboratory equipment by calibrating; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology in NAACLS accredited MT program or Associate’s Degree in MLT certification program.
  • MLS or MT-ASCP/ MLT-ASCP or equivalent level certification offered by one of the professional societies, or must achieve certification within the first year of employment.
  • Experience in Microbiology is required.
