About the position
The position involves performing technical procedures that require accurately assaying various analytes using a variety of instruments, middleware, computer systems, and both fully automated and non-automated procedures. Responsibilities include instrument maintenance, reagent preparation, and calibration, as well as documenting technical information to produce quality test results. This includes maintaining records of calibrations, quality control results, and reporting results through various means. The role also involves preparing and issuing blood and blood products, ensuring safety in transfusions, and participating in various laboratory tasks under the direction of the Manager or Lead Tech. Compliance with safety policies and laboratory procedures is essential.
Responsibilities
- Perform technical procedures to assay various analytes.
- Conduct instrument maintenance, reagent preparation, and calibration.
- Document technical information to produce quality test results.
- Report results via lab computer, manual requisition, fax, and phone.
- Maintain and file records of preliminary results.
- Prepare, inspect, and issue blood and blood products.
- Take inventory and order supplies.
- Assist with recommending new methods and equipment.
- Orient new employees and recommend additional training.
- Participate in quality assessment data gathering and activities.
- Comply with safety policies and laboratory procedures.
Requirements
- Must be certified as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Technician or be eligible for certification at the time of employment.
- Proof of education will be required.
- Experience in a clinical laboratory is strongly preferred.
