About the position

The Medical Technologist position at Holy Cross Health involves performing routine and specialized procedures, reviewing and approving clinical test results for use in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with established protocols for a laboratory performing high complexity procedures as defined by the standards of the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988. The position supports the mission of Trinity Health and Holy Cross Hospital, working with infectious and hazardous substances, and requires troubleshooting of major and minor instruments. Responsibilities include monitoring testing analyses, ensuring acceptable levels of analytic performance, and providing orientation to testing personnel. The role also incorporates Trinity's mission and goals into daily work and may involve other related duties as assigned. Candidates must be willing to submit to fingerprinting and an FBI criminal history check.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and specialized procedures in the laboratory.
  • Review and approve clinical test results for diagnosis and treatment of patients.
  • Ensure compliance with established protocols for high complexity procedures.
  • Support the mission of Trinity Health and Holy Cross Hospital.
  • Work with infectious and hazardous substances.
  • Troubleshoot major and minor instruments as needed.
  • Monitor testing analyses and specimen examination for acceptable analytic performance.
  • Ensure patient test results are reported only after corrective actions are taken.
  • Provide orientation to testing personnel.
  • Incorporate Trinity's mission and goals into daily work.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology (Medical Technology), biological, chemical or related science; and satisfactory completion of a clinical laboratory educational rotation.
  • A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university including courses in biological science, chemistry and mathematics, and successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Medical Technologist program.
  • A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university, including 16 semester hours of biological science (with one semester in microbiology), 16 semester hours of chemistry, one semester of mathematics, and one year of full-time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in relevant fields within the last ten years.
  • New Graduate to 5 years of experience in Clinical Laboratory Setting.
  • Current or eligible ASCP, AMT, or NCA certification as a Medical Technologist is desirable but not necessary.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong knowledge of laboratory methodologies, interpretation of results, quality assurance, and CMS regulations preferred.
  • Ability to work in harmony with other personnel.
  • Visual acuity, including depth perception and color discrimination.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Comprehension, skill, and command of oral and written English Language communication.
